Beyond the Exhibit

Summer Series at the Charles R. Wood Theater

Beyond the Exhibit

Our special “Beyond the Exhibit” family-friendly summer series returns to the Charles R. Wood Theater this summer with 3 amazing shows! Last year, we explored indigenous Haudenosaunee culture through performances that featured storytelling, music, and dance. This year, we’ll have programs that highlight Latin, African, and Haudenosaunee culture, each with their own engaging story to tell.

Our list of 2025 programs are as follows:

Thursday, July 31, 11:00AM – 12:00PM: Latin American Music Workshop

The World Awareness Children’s Museum is partnering with The Sembrich to present a youth workshop celebrating Latin American music and dance. This educational event will showcase The Sembrich’s 2025 Flonzaley Resident Artists in a fun and interactive program for children ages 6-12.

Tickets: Free, but reservations are required as seating is limited.

Saturday, August 16, 2:00 – 3:00PM: Stories from the People of the Longhouse

This storytelling presentation is filled with traditional Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) legends that have been told for hundreds of years. These stories teach about the beliefs, customs and history of the Haudenosaunee people. Storyteller Perry Ground will bring the stories to life through vivid descriptions, his rhythmic voice and a VERY active stage presence. These stories become ‘interactive’ as Perry is known to include audience members in the stories. Elements of traditional Haudenosaunee lifestyle, pieces of historical information and LOTS of humor are woven into each story. Discussion about the Haudenosaunee culture and the art of storytelling is also part of this program. Not just for children, all listeners (young and old), will find this presentation captivating, highly entertaining yet very educational.

Tickets: $10 per person | WACM members: $9 per person

Saturday, August 23, 2:00 – 3:00PM: Ballet Waramba

Their troupe is composed of exceptional talented artists who are passionate about sharing the rich cultural heritage of Africa through the universal language of dance and music.
